I'm fairly certain that it does, and that this has been studied, like DosadiVH said.
In politics, here in Canada at least, people will often not vote for the party they like: most believe it'll always be a two-horse race and that the other parties have no chance. As such, they vote for the "least bad" of the two "leading" parties. I would theorize that this is strongly influenced if not entirely caused by the fact that we have surveys before the elections. The same could happen with online polls such as this one.
